Are Alexia Crispy Onion Rings any good?

Yes, these are a decent onion ring that are quick to prepare at home. The breading cooks up impeccably crunchy right out of the oven. On the downside, the interior onion tends to be on the thinner, smaller side.

The aim of this product is displayed front and center on the packaging – crispy. Using panko breadcrumbs, this Alexia heat and serve product aims to deliver your plate a textural treat with the minimum of effort.

On that basis alone, it’s hard to fault this product. Cooked per the instructions in the oven (see below) the rings come out impeccably crisp; indeed go just a few minutes more and they’re shatteringly crunchy. If you’re looking to add bite and texture to a dish, you needn’t look any further.

Where the dish does fall down a tad is the interior onion itself. The portion is a little meagre and often slides right out of the exterior breadcrumb shell – leaving a perfect breadcrumb halo in its wake. It’s not a deal breaker, but obviously freshly cooked onion rings would be superior.

If home made is not an option for reasons of time – or more importantly mess – this product is very handy to have in the freezer. I usually always have some around.

Alexia Crispy Onion Rings – what’s in the bag?

This is what you’ll find inside the main packaging. Do note, the main bag isn’t resealable so you might want to repackage in something that is once you open them to prevent freezer burn.

The most common way I use these onion rings is to add a little crunch to a burger. Below is my home name vegetarian Western BBQ burger with a Beyond Burger, Nalley’s veggie chili and Sweet Earth Hickory And Sage vegan bacon.

I also use the onion rings as a side dish of sorts where I want to add a little crisp texture. This dish is a vegan mixed grill – a junk food plate featuring Alexia onion rings, hash browns, a 365 smoky and spicy burger and a Beyond Meat sausage:

400F degrees and about 15-20 minutes in the oven is all it takes to prepare these onion rings. I’d imagine these would be great in an air fryer too.

How much are Alexia Crispy Onion Rings

As of April 2019 I paid $2.76 for these onion rings at Walmart. I find they’re quite a dominant ingredient texturally in a dish so I never use more than three or four per serving. As such they last quite a while for me and they’re a great price under three bucks.

  1. Would rate Alexa Onion Rings with a 1 or less. Mostly batter, which contributes to the fattening of America. Onions are cheap, so why is there so much more batter than onion? Would rate this product as lowest possible.
