Four chicken sausages come shrink-wrapped in this product from Boar’s Head. Once opened you can’t reseal it, so keep that in mind. The refrigerated sausages are also pre-cooked so these are heat and serve.
Cooking: The package recommends sautéing or 5-7 minutes, or microwaving or 35-45 seconds. Again these are precooked, so you’re just heating and eating. This makes them a good quick protein addition to many meals.
Taste and texture: The skin can become chewy, especially if you microwave, so do keep an eye on that. The interior chicken has a good coarse grind and mouthfeel though. Taste wise, it’s a moderated heat. Think tabasco with black pepper lingering warmth. There’s a solid garlic and paprika smokiness but minimal acidic snap.
Overall: I enjoyed these a great deal. The flavors are strong but don’t linger with you all day long. While I mainly enjoyed them on hoagie rolls with a variety of toppings, I could imagine them in a number of other dishes; part of a fun morning breakfast plate or sandwich, or many a pasta dish.
