Kroger Private Selection Angus Beef Burgers review

This one oozes fancy pants vibes. Behold the gold and black packaging, the Kroger Private Selection labeling, and oh, what’s that – Angus Beef! This one must be something special right?

Inside the cardboard sleeve you’ll find six handsomely portioned burgers weighing in at a third of a pound each; freezer paper interleaves each burger to stop them sticking. You’ll still need a butter knife to pry em apart mind you.

Cooking: Grill em, fry em, broil em, heck I even air fried some. They go right from the freezer to your chosen method of cooking.

Taste and texture: In a word, they’re ok. Don’t expect your socks to be blown off in amazement. I personally find Angus beef as much a marketing tagline as ‘sushi grade’ when it comes to fish. It means very little in practice, but it sure sounds good. These burgers are densely formed, which may or may not be a plus point for you.

Verdict: Frozen burgers never quite stack up to freshly made. The end result is always a little more listless. The flip side is that they are of course really convenient to have on hand for whenever you get that craving. But $13.99? It’s a pass for me. I feel like I’m paying more for all the razzmatazz than any materially better flavor.

  1. Tried these since I like the Private Selection Prime Rib burger patties and these were a couple dollars cheaper. Not too impressed–they had a strange onion taste/aftertaste to them. Noticed onion is not an ingredient or primary spice on the label.
Definitely will not purchase them again–I would take them back if I still had the receipt and it wasn’t a hassle to remember to take them to the store.

    • I bought the same kind. That is why I am looking up reviews. I ate 1/2 Because the taste was awful. I got a stomach ache with several episodes after.
I couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth even though I tried everything.
I don’t know what is in these but I felt like I was poisoned.
I purchased them at Metro Market. The date on the box was 040924EST425B.
I took a picture in case they are recalled.
