I quite enjoyed the Chile Verde from Del Real, so much so, I’ve tasked myself with slowly working my way through their line up. This shredded chicken product comes in a similar package to the pork, an external cardboard sleeve that house a plastic tray and sealed plastic bag with the protein inside. You have to cook all of the product in one go.
Cooking: Microwave the inner pouch, or empty into a pan on the stove with some water. Essentially you’re just reheating the pre-cooked chicken. See full details below.
Taste and texture: The chicken is a little mushy and watery, but nothing too unappealing. The taste, is well, chicken. And little else – the ingredients are basically chicken, onion, salt and garlic.
Overall: This is a very neutral product that would work in a variety of dishes – I used mine in burritos and chimichanga over a couple of evenings. The watery nature of the chicken means it’s not perfect for me. Personally I think a store bought rotisserie chicken quickly broken down is *far* superior – but this product fits a niche in that it’ll have a longer shelf life in your refrigerator than a fresh chicken.

This is essentially shredded white chicken that’s simple to reheat and use in your favorite dish. It has no real overt flavors of its own, making it a flexible blank canvass for your cooking.
